U of C international doctoral student to present paper at women’s congress
Israeli resident Miri Renert, a doctoral student in an  online
distance program offered by the U of C Faculty of Education, will be
presenting a paper at the prestigious 10th International
Interdisciplinary Congress on Women – Women’s World 2008, in Madrid

10 GDER students awarded QEII Graduate Scholarship
Ten students from the U of C, Faculty of Education, 
Graduate Division of Educational Research (GDER) received the 2008
Queen Elizabeth II Graduate Scholarship, worth up to $15,000. Among
these are a surfer researching intercultural and environmental
education, an online graduate student studying the characteristics and
perceptions of other online graduate students, and a Hispanics language
scholar researching how ESL programs are marketed. Read more
Whispering Signs
U of C Faculty of Education doctoral student Polly  Knowlton
Cockett is project manager for the Whispering Signs initiative – a
system of 34 artistic interpretive signs providing onlookers with a
"unique and deeply personal" understanding of the Centennial Nature
ground and Whispering Woods Natural Area Park prairie grassland. Read more
GDER student wins a national master’s thesis award, and presents paper at CIESC conference Ana-Marija
Petrunic, who graduated from the Graduate Division of Educational
Research in June 2007 with an MA, was recently awarded the Michel
Laferriere Award from the Comparative and International Education
Society of Canada (CIESC). Read more
Highest U of C honour awarded to GDER student
The highest honour a graduating student can receive is the newest award
presented by the U of C. The President's Award for Excellence in
Student Leadership recognizes five outstanding students. One of these
students is a doctoral student in GDER, Christine Johns, who graduates
with a PhD in Educational Leadership this June. Learn more

Update on Tuition Payment Option Effective Fall 2008, the University is discontinuing credit cards as a form of payment for tuition and general fees. The University is redirecting dollars currently spent on credit card company fees to student financial aid: $500,000 for undergraduates and $250,000 for graduate students. Learn more
Application deadlines August 15, 2008 for course-based programs February 1, 2009 for thesis-based programs
The
Graduate Division of Educational Research is currently accepting
applications to its on-campus and online programs. The next application
deadline is August 15, 2008 for a January 2009 start date. This is for
all course-based, on-campus and online programs (MEd, Graduate Diploma
and Graduate Certificate). The application deadline for thesis-based
degrees (PhD, EdD, MA, and MSc), is February 1, 2009 for a July or
September start date. The course-based programs will also be accepting
applications for this time period but not until October 1, 2008. Please
refer to your particular program for more information. To check on

GDER launches online EdD in WAL Beginning
Summer 2008, this new thesis-based degree will engage scholars in
critical, in-depth investigations into workplace and adult learning. Read more

Notice regarding MEd Exit Procedures in GDER At
a meeting of the Faculty of Graduate Studies Council on Oct. 24, 2007,
a motion was passed to rescind the Master of Education (MEd) Exit
Procedure, which has been a required component of the Master of
Education program in GDER. If you are a student enrolled in the MEd
program (on-campus or online), you have the choice of:
1. being grandfathered, i.e., completing the MEd Exit procedure, or 2.
choosing to follow the new policy, which does not require the Exit
Procedure for completion of the MEd degree. For further information

CLL SUMMER INSTITUTE 2008 July 4-6, 2008 The
Institute features keynote speakers and research reports by academics,
graduate students, and practitioners from a variety of national and
international settings. This year's keynote speakers will include Dr.
Peter Jarvis, a world renowned Adult Educator who will speak about
life-long learning, and Dr. Alma Harris, an international expert and
author in school improvement. Students are invited to present some of
